Finding Place of Coast Redwood — Sequoia sempervirens (D. Don) Endl. in Zagreb     pdf     HR     EN 335
Summary: Sequoia sempervirens (D. Don) Endle. A genus of one species of giant evergreen coniferrous tree from California and S. W. Oregon. The tallest known tree species often topping 110 m (115 m) in the wild. Pyramidal or clumnar with a buttressed tank and thick, stringy, cinnamon bark. Grow in moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil in sun or partial shade, ideally sheltered from strong, cold winds. Propagate from seed in spring or by cuttings late summer to early autumn, in a cold frame.

The paper presents acclimatization, adaptation and phenological observations of Sequoia sempervirens, which have been grown in the private garden in Zagreb, during the last eight decades have been investigated. The autors describes one individual tree of Coast Redwood in Zagreb which shows that this species — although originating from milder area — grow good in climatic condition of Zagreb. It is recommended that this species can be successfully grown in amenity plantings under these climatic conditions — on warmer and protected places.
