Summary: Conifer and deciduous forests of the region Gorski Kotar present the most natural ecosystem in Croatia. 75 % of this region is covered by forests (118. 000 hectares). Forest management with the regulation of cut were applied from the old time. Anyhow, the growing stock per 1 hectare of 320 in 1950. fell down to 282 cubic metres today.As in the most region in Europa also in the region of Gorski Kotar Silver Fir desease is very big problem. The dieback of many Silver Fir trees is great obstacle in the process of the forest normalization. The studies and the research carried out by the Forest Faculty of Zagreb University on the many Sample plots of different type of forests could be very helpful to the Forest Service in the region of Gorski kotar.
