The Ecological Issues of Gorski Kotar pdf HR EN | 415
Summary: A dispute on the ecological issues of Gorski Kotar, this study focuses at the pollution of air, water, and soil coming through the vHndrose of pollution from the Kvarner-Istria basin and all Europe. The Industrial Revolution turned the "Croatian Switzerland" (Hire, about a hundred years ago) into the "dustbin " (Prof Prpić, today) of both European and home industry. The recession of the habitats, and the catastrophic dieback of the forests, particularly of the Fir, have disturbed the natural structure of our forests, and the natural balance and diversity of the species. The economic and other functions of the forests, such as air purification, accumulation of drinking water, and the protection of the soil against erosion, have been put at stake. The basic principles of the Croatian forestry school, natural stands, sustained management, the diversity of species, and natural regeneration have now been threatened. The rising efforts to save the forests from dying - by cutting dead trees only, and by afforestation - we can just contribute to the outer image of the forests, without getting into the causes of pollution. What we need is the help from the government - the right economic policies. 424
