| Summary: The paper is a discussion on global strategic options for forestry and wood processing development, their interactions and the impact of biotechnical sciences upon their development. With the alternative development strategies, forestry and wood processing both worldwide and at home dealt with separately, there are certain guidelines concerning unanimuty and also oppositions for these branches of economy. For these reasons, this paper presents the basic scientific principles and predictions for further prospoects of forestry and wood processing in the Republic of Croatia. The forestry principles refer to redefinitions of for est functions as resource supplier, waste assimilator and direct source of usefulness. The ones of wood processing are associated with the strategies changing from the so-called comparative advantages into the so-called strategies of competitive advantages.
