Continental Ecosystems of Croatia     pdf     HR     EN 249
Summary: This paper presents a proposal for a project entitled "Continental Ecosystems of Croatia". Project content: natural-scientific classification of continental ecosystems, a map of basic ecosystem types: 1:500 000) and their biological, ecological and management interpretation. Criteria for the determination of types and cartographic units of continental ecosystems are: bio-climatic location of the site, taxonomic characteristic of vegetation cover and pedogenetic characteristic of soil, while in the field of agriculture the composition of cultures is taken into consideration. An example of forest vegetation in Istria is taken to demonstrate the main conceptual and cartographic characteristics of the project.
Based on Gračanin´s (1950) pedological-vegetation sequence and bio-climatic break down of continental ecosystems in Croatia (Bertović, 1985; Bertović-Glavač, 1987), we have worked out and described here a conceptual solution for classification and cartography in Croatian continental ecosystems. Our solution has been presented as a project and forwarded to the Ministry of Sciences and Technology in Zagreb for consideration and financing. With this project proposal our intention is to inform the professional and general public of procedures for classification and mapping of Croatian continental ecosystems in the best possible natural, scientific way.
