The Structure and Regeneration Processses of Selected Selection Forest Types with Dominant Proportion of Spruce in Slovakia     pdf     HR     EN 221
Summary: The application of the sustainable forest management principle in Slovakia is an issue that has lately with good reason increasingly drawn attention in forestry circles. However, forestry practice needs production models to be used as real instructions.A starting point should be forest vegetation degrees and connecting to the uneven-aged, height-differentiated stands with nearly or entirely original natural structure as to the tree species.
A productively effective and functionally desirable concept, selective forest management in Slovakian forests is associated with the ecosystems with high proportion of shade-tolerating conifers. It is mainly practiced, and with fewest problems in the forests of 5th (fir/beech) and 6th forest vegetation degrees (spruce-beech-fir).
The research on the selection forest models (stand types) in the region of Low Tatra Mountains has proved that in case of selection forests with dominant productive function the optimal wood stock need not go over 400-420 m3/ha, the target diameter 60-65 cm. In selection forests with dominant protective function the stock should be about 300 m3/ha, the target diameter 60 cm.
In the region of Oravske Beskydy, selection forests should have their optimal wood stock of 320-350 m/ha, the target diameter 65 cm.
