Measuring Elements as Indicators of Productivity in Forests of Whitebark Pine (Pinus heldreichi Christ) on the Mountain of Čvrsnica     pdf     HR     EN 107
Summary: The random selection method and representative selection method was applied in this survey to determine the exact state of measuring elements as indicators of productivity, and thereupon multiple regressive analysis was used to determine the correlational link between volume and volume increse, as dependent variables and site quality, the degree of canopy and mean diameter, as indepent variables, and by status analysis of the natural newgrowth attempting to determine the possibility of natural regeneration in natural whitebark pine forests on the mountain of Čvrsnica on an area of 20,80 ha. Reserch was carried out in ten departments in two management units.
The results show that measuring elements as indicators of productivity depend on age, development stage, habitat conditions and degrees of canopy, while the average values add up to the following figures: stands volume – 165,7 m3/ha of the entire wooden mass, stand volume increment 2,14 m3/ha of the entire wooden mass, base of stand – 20,0 m2/ha, number of trees in stand- 526 piece/ha, mean stand diameter 19,6 cm, mean stand height – 7,3 m, degree of canopy – 0,44, site quality of stand – 3,5, transitional period of the trees – 24 years and relative tree age 164 years. The correlational link between the stand volume, as dependent variables, and site quality , degree of canopy and mean diameter, as independent variables, under the condition that the independent variables are constant and equal to average values, show that the stand volume is decreasing from better to worst site quality in shape of second degree parabola, that increase from smaller to larger degree of canopy in shape of second degree parabola, that increase from smaller to larger mean stand diameter in shape of second degree parabola, while for volume increment shows decrement from better to worst site quality in line shape or in shape of second degree parabola, than show increment from smaller to larger degree of canopy in line shape or second degree parabola shape and that decrease from smaller to larger mean diameter of stand in shape of second degree parabola.
The numerousity of natural newgrowth in natural whitebark pine forests on the mountain of Čvrsnica depend on age, development stage and degree of canopy, while the successful regeneration of whitebark pine forests depend on mountain habitat conditions and stand age. The numerousity of natural whitebark pine newgrowth come to an average of 5. 056 piece/ha. The achieved volume and volume increament values, being one of the most important productivity indicators, are satisfactory for the whitebark pine forests on the mountain of Čvrsnica considering the harsh mountain habitat conditions prevailing, while the correlational link between volume and volume increament, as dependent variables, and site quality, degree of canopy and mean diameter, as independent variables, offer good insight of mutual relations among certain measuring elements as indicators of productivity, even with such a number, though average, of natural newgrowths in a whitebark pine forest can successfully regenerate naturally. The achieved results can be used in managing natural whitebark pine stands on the mountain of Čvrsnica and beyond.
