Salinisation Influence on Vegetation and Forest Soils of Island Korčula     pdf     HR     EN 143
Summary: A method for monitoring the sedimentation of matter in forest ecosystems was established which has so far encompassed several forest communities in Croatia. On the Šaknja rat forest one plot is established and amount of dry and wet deposition have been monitored. The following sedimented substances have been monitored: Cl-, SO42--S, NO3--N, NH4+-N, Na+, K+, Ca2+ i Mg2+. Sampling is performed by means of funnels with openings minimum of 314 cm2, and the amount of precipitation measured in a rain gauge with a surface opening of 60 cm2.
Funnels and rain gauges are placed under the cover of the tree crowns and in an open area on each plot. Plastic lysimeters are placed in the soil at a depth of 10 cm or beneath the organic horizon. They collect the seeped liquid (seepage) in the soil Sampling is carried out once a month or once in three months.
According to the results of the monitoring our forest ecosystem in forest management unit Šaknja rat on the island of Korčula absorb more sediment particles (wet and dry sedimentation) compared to the control samples on the open area. On that area the salt is one of the main reasons for the increased content of natrium, calcium, potassium and magnesium in the samples beneath the tree crowns and in the lysimetric waters.
