Diseases of Game, Zoonosis and Possible Methods for Conducting the Preventive Measures     pdf     HR     EN 173
Summary: The goal of this discussion is to address all persons involved in forestry, hunting and veterinary medicine on problems associated with disease manifestation in wildlife, reservoirs of pathogens and maintaining of pathogens in natural foci. It is especially pointed on health control among wildlife in hunting grounds and knowledge on possible transmission of certain disease on livestock and humans. The accent is put mainly on potentially risky groups like foresters, hunters, tourists and wildlife researchers, as well as on their protection. This discussion reveals new approach to diseases of game, threatened species, diagnostic procedures and prophylaxis. The authors emphasize conduction of health monitoring in hunting grounds as comprehensive program assigned for recognition of risk factors and their treatment in time. As a difference to former approach and resolving of every change (signs of disease) by prophylactic hunt, this discussion points on all negative effects of such approach and puts prophylactic hunt as a final measure, not as a measure of choice. Certainly, with exception of diseases where certain characteristics demands the hunt. Nowadays, the increase in economical value of game seeks for avoiding of each unnecessary loss and address on other, more acceptable preventive measures. A base of such approach is systemic monitoring and interpretation of gained results by wildlife experts. Finally, this discussion points the necessity of preventive measures in humans.

Key words: diseases of game; reservoirs of pathogens; natural foci; prophylaxis; human protection
