| Summary: In this paper the data on crown condition of forests in Croatia is presented for the five-year period 1999–2003, separately for all species, broadleaves, conifers and three most prominent tree species, pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.), common beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and silver fir (Abies alba Mill.). A comparison is made of the percentage of moderately to severely damaged trees for these three species with European data, as well as with the data from Forest Administration.The percentage of moderately to severely damaged trees in Croatia does not fluctuate significantly in the research period. While the damage of oak and beech is higher in Europe, siler fir is more damaged in Croatia. The sample size, year- to- year differences and variability of applied criteria in Forest Administration affect the accuracy of crown condition assessment.
