The Turkish Forestry     pdf     HR     EN 669
Summary: Turkey has got 62.6 mil citizens, and its total area is 77 mil. hectare of which 20.7 mill. hectare (26.7 %) goes to the forests and forest lands. About 98 % of the forests are owned by the state, 1.5 % of the forests are in the private ownership and 0.5 % of the forests are public forests. Regarding the capabilities of producing quality wood, about 50.9 % of the forests are forests with good quality, and 49.1 % of the forests are forests with bad quality – degraded forests. The share of the coniferous species 54.4 % (pine 38.5 %, cedar 9 %, fir & spruce 8.8 %, cedar 3.5 % and the other coniferous 0.5 %). The share of the broadleaves species is 45.6 % (oaks 25.9 %, beech 8.5 %, other hard broadleaves species 4.8 % and soft broadleaves species 3.9 %). Nearly 34 % of the forests are coppices; 64 % are high even-aged forests, and only 2 % of the forests are selective managed. Average annual felling volume (related to the ten years average) is 22 046 000 m3 of the wood (5 081 000 m3 are logs, 3 776 000 m3 is other industrial wood and 13 189 000 m3 is fuel wood. Forests are managed by the General Directorate of Forestry which is the part of the Ministry of Forestry since 1983. Production, technical, technological and expert resources that Turkish forestry has got are shown in this paper. The basic activities of the forestry are described by using organisational scheme of General Directorate of Forestry.
