Summary: An evaluation of the forest damage in Croatia in 1993 was carried out on 84 bioindicating points (16x16 km network of the Gauss-Kriiger coordination system) and in 1994 on 89 points. The results of the evaluation have been shown for the major broadleaved and coniferous tree specoes. The sledding and yellowness of crowns has been estimated. The assessed mean demage was established as 37.9 in 1993 and 53.8 in 1994. the conifers amounting to 45.1 in 1993 and 56.8 in 1994, the broadleaves 36.2 in 1993 and 53.1 in 994. The most damaged trees were of the common fir (87.5 in 1993; 81.2 in 1994), followed by the peduncled oak (60.6 in 1993; 81.8 in 1994), and sessile-flowered oak (52.2 in 1993; 71.9 in 1994). The index of tree damage, i.e. sledding higher than 25, damage degrees being 2, 3, and 4, is the highest in the last five estimates: 1987 it was 7.9; 1988 —10.2; 1990 —9.9; 1992 —15.3, 1993 —19.2 and 1994 it was 28.8. The atmospheric conditions, the natural environment, the deposition and yhe impact of the air pollution upon the forest ecosystems in the future were also considered.
