Summary: Efforts on conservation of European Black Poplar genetic resources which have been made since the last meeting by members of EUFORGEN Populus nigra Network are presented in this paper. Research and some practical steps which have been done on in situ and ex situ conservation are presented. Basic information about EUROPOP project supported by European Union are given. Summary report about Populus nigra core collection and plans for establishment of similar Populus alba collection are presented, as well. A review of available documents, emerged as a result of the Network progress are given. Finally, a review of efforts which have been put in terms of raise of public awereness for the problem of genetic resources conservation of this, at European level, endangered species which is important part of natural riparian forests, is presented.
