Summary: With the disappearance of the fedual system In the first half of the XIX century, Croatia followed the European trends. The Croatian- Slavonian Economic Society of 1841, an organization encompassing all economic branches, was followed by the Forestry Society founded In 1846 by Dragutin Kos, chief forester of the countess Erdody estate. Czech by birth, Dragutin (or Karlo) Kos spent his best years, from 1843 until 1855, in Croatia, dedicating his work to his country. Together with Franjo Sporer and Antun Tomlć, he directed Croatian forestry toward rational forest management.
