Citrus flatid planthopper, Metcalfa pruinosa(Say, 1830), like many of the newcomer insects, has been present on the European territory for some years. The first record dates from Italy in 1979 while the first finding of this pest in Croatia originates from Istria in 1993, and was made by our colleagues, agronomists. In the following years it spread throughout the Europe, especially the Mediterranean countries. In some countries it became a serious new pest, particularly in orchards and vineyards. The Croatian name it gained due to a rich production of honeydew which is highly valued honey producing source among the bee keepers. Another behavioural feature differentiates this hemipteran from many similar, commonly found on the same plants. On the slightest tactile input (our finger for example) formerly static masses of waxy substance turns into an agile jumping nymphs which were not even visible before as a single individuals. This planthopper has been recorded on high number of woody plants and annuals. So far it has not caused serious damages in forests and on urban green in Croatia. It has a one year cycle and damages occur during the hot summer months.
