Uši šiškarice (Cynipidae, Hymenoptera) zanimljiva su skupina kukaca čija se pojava često zapaža u prirodi
posredno, putem uočljivih deformacija biljnog tkiva, tzv. šiški, gala ili zoocecidija. Riječ je o specifičnoj interakciji
(na razini vrsta) biljke i kukca koja rezultira hipertrofijom određenih biljnih tkiva i formiranjem
mikrostaništa pogodnog za razvoj ličinki ovih osobitih biljojednih kukaca. Pritom je vrlo zanimljiva činjenica da
ovaj odnos ne mora nužno biti štetan za biljku (vrlo ograničeni problemi oko protoka biljnih sokova) već naprotiv,
može biti biljci od koristi jer se uslijed napada ovih osica kod hrastova inducira povećana produkcija tanina,
tvari koja djeluje kao nepalatabilna (obrambena) tvar umanjujući “jestivost” lišća i time smanjujući napad
širokog spektra defolijatora. Najveći broj osica iz ove porodice dolazi upravo na hrastovima a ukupno broje preko
1 000 vrsta.


Gall wasps (Cynipidae, Hymenoptera) are quite extraordinary insects that are commonly found in nature by
the resulting abnormal plant growth they cause and which is known as a gall. A special plant-insect interaction is
involved in which plant develops attacking insect species-specific tissues well suited for the development of
preimaginal stages of these phytophagous wasps. What is interesting is that this relationship needs not be regarded
as harmful for the plant (very limited problems with sap flow). On the contrary, plants can benefit from the
gall buildup since this results with a heightened levels of tanine in oaks which makes plant “less edible”, thus more
resistant to the wide array of defoliating insects. Largest number of gall wasps develop on oaks and in total, the
family numbers over 1 000 species.
