GOSPODARENJE PRIVATNIM ŠUMAMA HRVATSKE KAO OGRANIČAVAJUĆI
ČIMBENIK ISPUNJENJA OPĆEKORISNIH I GOSPODARSKIH

i razvijenost prostora, značenje šuma i njihovih funkcija u tom području

šumama istraživanog područja i općenito u Hrvatskoj.
Ključne r ij eči: privatne šume, funkcije šuma, elementi strukture, ekstenzivno
gospodarenje, prebirne sječe, tipični šumovlasnik

PRIVATE FOREST MANAGEMENT IN CROATIA AS A LIMITING FACTOR
IN THE ACHIEVEMENT OF NON-COMMERCIAL AND COMMERCIAL
FOREST FUNCTIONS IN LOWLAND REGIONS

Jure ČAVLOVIĆ, Milan ORŠANIĆ, Mario BOŽIĆ

SUMMARY: Of the total forest land in the Republic of Croatia, 461,137 ha
or 19 % of forests and woodland are privately owned. However, private ownership
is highly fragmented. There are 600,000 small-scale private forest
owners, whereas there are no forest associations of private owners. In the
area of Zagreb County, the proportion of small-scale private forests amount
to almost 50 % or 69,420 ha. Taking into account the population density and
the spatial development, the importance of forest functions in this region is
even more pronounced.

Research was carried out in the lowland and hilly region of Zagreb County
(4 land register districts). The elements of stand structure were measured in a total
of 417 plots. A survey was conducted on 366private forest owners (56.5 %).
The results of research indicate extensive stand heterogeneity, a relatively high
variability of structural elements of principal tree species in the stands. A higher
variability in the incidence of pedunculate oak in the space (C V= 107 Vo) was
found in relation to beech in the hilly region (C V= 76 %). Furthermore, the absence
of a uniform approach to management over an area larger than the average
plot (0.43 ha) and the selective cutting of individual mature trees of pedunculate
oak without regeneration leads to the gradual disappearance of pedunculate
oak from private lowland forests. The profile of atypical small-scale private
forest owner was obtained from the survey results. Recommendations are given

for the improvement of the current status and management with small-scale private
forests in the study area and in Croatia in general.
