On these pages we already presented fir needle moth, domestic defoliator occurring in natural silver fir range. Species quite similar in its biology but feeding on plants from cypress family came to these parts from North America. It is the arborvitae leaf miner, Argyresthia thuiella Packard. On the same plants, two close- ly related domestic species occur: A. dilectella Zeller and A. trifasciata Staudinger. Small, silvery moths swarm in summer, lay eggs on cedars and cypresses and as caterpillars, start chewing the inner parts of twigs until the next spring. In the late spring next year, symptoms of their attack are very noticeable. Damages can be quite significant and the appearance of attacked plants unpleasant and disfigured.
