SUMMARY: In this article the procedures and research results of the European
Forest Genetics Resources Programme (EUFORGEN) with the accent
on Croatia are deceribed. Republic of Croatia by signing 6 Strasbourg, 4 Helsinki
and 2 Lisbon Resolutions, getting involved in EUFORGEN Networks,
working and publishing research results about sustainable forest management,
conservation and protection of forests, has significantly contributed to
the realization of the Programme in Phase I. Our scientists, researchers and
professional experts by their presence and paper presentation on international
meetings have very successfully promoted the Croatian forestry (experience
and tradition in sustainable forest management, conservation and protection
of biodiversity and forest genetic resources).


It is proposed to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to sign the letter
of agreement and to nominate the national coordinator for EUFORGEN Network
for Phase II (2000-2004.). The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and
Ministry of Sciences and Technology should cover Annual Contribution for
the membership of Croatia in Phase II.
