SUMMARY: Equisetum svlvaticum L. is a rareplant in the Croatian flora. It is
known from several localities only (Schlosser & Vukotinović 1869; Hire 1905),
and its most important habitat isjust the NPŠO Zalesina where it grows in the localities
ofBelevine and Pepelarnica. There it enters the composition ofa special
marshland fir forest ofthe as. Carici brizoidis-Abietetum Trinajstić 1969 and the
subass. equisetetosum svlvaticae Trinajstić 1974.


Only recentlv (1996), the species Equisetum svlvaticum has been diseovered
much more to the east, but in a different area compared to theAlps. Recentlv, it has
also been diseovered in Požeško gorje (Papuk) in Slavonia and this is itsfirst new
habitat in the Croatian flora. There, it grows within the marshland fir forest
which, by its flora! composition, corresponds basically to the ass. Carici brizoidis-
Abietetum, namely to its subass. equisetetosum svlvaticae.


The habitat ofthe species E. svlvaticum in Požeško gorje is an interesting confirmation
that the syntaxonomical interpretation of the marshland fir forests in
Gorski kotar and on Velika Kapela in Croatia can be considered as logical.
