The Work Merit of Technical and Engineering Forestry Students

ABRIDGED ARTICLE

In the Republic of Croatia, within the framework of longitudinal sociological
research, in the forestry faculty of the Croatian forestry cabinet, commenced
successive investigations into the recruitment of highly personnel in the field of
forestry.

Forestry students were thoroughly surveyed each year. The scientific surveys
encompassed the problems associated with extraction, material status, satisfaction
and success in study and the merit of orientation towards their work.

This article, therefore, outlines the attitudes of technical and engineering
students towards their work. It presents a microanalysis of the students´ four
yearly thoughts and it includes research studies conducted in both 1991 and 1992.

The findings have established that intrinsic (spiritual) merit subjugates the
much better known stance (AM 3.79) of extrinsic (material) merit (AM 2.75).

The war, has not changed this finding considerably. The results are in congruity
with the attitudes of students in other faculties in institutions of higher
learning in Croatia.

Key words : forestry sociology, work merit, forestry students, technical
engineers in forestry.
