The Increment of the Growth of some Sorts of Conifer Species on the Submediterranean Karst Area of Dalmatia Summary The investigations were carried out on the experimental plot Klačine situated on the area of Sinj forest administration, on the typical submediterranean karst area of Dalmatia. On this experimental locality, in the spring of 1958, the afforestration by seedlings of some forest sorts was carried out in stripes which were 100 m long and 20 m wide by »classical« method, by planting the seedlings with bare roots in the 40 x 40 x 40 holes. Four conifer species were introduced here, three foreign species and a native one. The native species is black pine (Pinus nigra Arn.) and the foreign species are maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.), Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica Man.) and cypress (Cupressus sempervireus L.). These species were measured in 1958, 1969, 1976 and 1982, that is in the 1, 11, 18 and 24. year. The results show that in this period the maritime pine had the greatest height, diameter and volume.. Its average height in the 24th year was 9,0 m, of the ceder 7,8 m, of black pine 7,6 and of cypress 6,3 m. The volume of wood of the medium tall pine tree in its 24th year was 0,0834 m:!, of black pine 0,0693 m:1, of Atlas cedar 0,0406 m> and of cypress 0,02385 m3. |
