Forest Management in the Arefa of R. O. š. »Slavonska šuma« with Particular
Reference to Common OAK Forests


Summary


Through the analysis of the present conditions of the forests in the area of
the R.O.Š. »SLAVONSKA ŠUMA« and of the changes which occurred over the
period between 1970 and 1985, the author has found out as follows:


— the workers employed in forest management greatly influence the condition
of the forests under their management, which can be noticed only if this
influence is considered over a longer period of time;
— the average wood stock, particularly that of the common oak trees, are
almost at the theoretical level established by the current scientific knowledge
about the productive capacity of such forests. This considered, and particularly
in view of the age structure, these forests have an excellent perspective. Taking
into account the production of 9.60 m´/ha and the existing wood stock which amasses
every year, in approximatelly 15 to 20 years we can expect a normal state and
normal wood stock of 350 m:l per hectare;
— in cases when in certain stands the situation is not quite satisfactory, the
author states a number of historical events which could have caused such conditions,
but he resolutely rejects the idea diffused by some scientists who assert
that such conditions are the result of the international approach by the operativestaff prescribing and carrying out too intensive thinning of the older stands, thus
decreasing the production, which leads to the devastation of such stands.
