Critical Values of Loading with Sulphur and Nitrogen Summary Load limits for sulphur and nitrogen are given on the basis of investigation results obtained in some of the most developed countries (Sweden, German Federal Republic, Netherlands, Great Britain, etc.) and the results are adapted to their conditions. However, the proposed classification should be thoroughly tested on the large number of different ecosystems and in more countries. For this purpose it will be necessary to realise a special programme of investigation in Yugoslavia, and to expand and adjust it to our conditions. At the same time it is necessary to join in relevant international research projects. Considerable efforts should be made to improve and standardize methods for determination of total, particularly dry, deposits. The proposed limit values constitute a solid basis for further work on the improvement of strategy for controlling the loading of forest and other ecosystems of sulphur and nitrogen deposits. |
