The Effect of Damaging Pollutants on Dieback of Forests in Gorski Kotar Summary Due to the unfavourable geographic position, increase in emission of dama ging substances, and the negative influence of pedologic, hydrogeologic, orographic biologic and silvi-cultural factors, Gorski Kotar has become a dump for industrial weste of the Istria-Rijeka area, including pollutants from northern Italy which reach us from far away during cyclonic periods. This resulted in the intensive dieback of forests, in particular conifers, and which continues to progress more rapidly. Without halting, slowing down and decreasing of emissions of damaging substances, the process of dieback cannot be supressed. |
