Analysis of Injuries at Work in the Mojica Birta Forestry Enterprise
Bjelovar from 1972 to 1984


S u m m a r y


The number of workers in the forest employed in the Mojica Birta Forestry
Enterprise, Bjelovar, during the period from 1972 to 1984 ranged from 1609
to 1892 (Table 1). During this period the number of injuries at work ranged
from 222 to 257. The majority of injuries occurred during felling and primary
conversion, 1758 (Table 2), followed by injuries when loading and unloading,
310, etc. During felling most of the injuries occurred in the process of sawing
trunks, 664 (Table 3), and with regard to parts of the body most injuries were
inflicted on the legs (1310 injuries) and arms (992 injuries). See Table 5. During
this period there were 13 fatalities of which 7 occurred at work, 5 in traffic
accidents and one of other causes (Table 4). With regard to the workers´ age the
greatest number of the injured were in the 41—50 age group (Table 7). The author
explains this with the diminished caution of the workers who rely on thei1´

experience. The majority of injuries, amounting to as much as 80—90%
consequence of not adhering to work safety measures.
