The Scientific Importance of »Risnjak« National Park


Summary


On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the founding of »Risnjak« National
Park, Prof. Đuro Ra,uš held a lecture on the scienitifliic importance of this National
Park. In the first part of the lecture he gave a historical review of the scientific
research on flora and vegetation on Rismjafc. The first investigation was carried oby Josip Sadler in 1825 and his notes were used by Dr. A. Neilreich in his work »Die
Vegetatiomssveirhaltniis.se von Oroaitisn«, published in 1868. Contemporary investigations
were carried out by Prof. Ivo Horvat and he published the results in his
work »Vegetacija planina zapadne Hrvatske« (The Vegetation of Mountains in
Western Croatia). In 1983 a siimecological-biological comparajtive investigation of
the ecosystem in »Risnjak« National Park were begun by setting up 4 permanent
plots of 1 ha in size each inside fo´ur different ecosystems. The author proposes
