Summary

FIRST RESULTS OF COMPARATIVE CULTIVATION TEST WITH SOME
INDIGENOUS AND CONIFEROUS THREE SPECIES

In order to make proper choice of coniferous tree species for forest planting,
the Forestry Institute at Jastrebarsko started with adequated investigations
in 1969. three indigenous and three foreign species were investigated and/or
icluded in experimental plantings: Scots pine (Pinus silvestris L.), European
black pine (Pinus nigra Arnold), and Norway spruce (Picea abies Karsten) of
the indigenous species, and European larch (Larix decidua Mill.), Eastern white
pine (Pinus strobus L.) and Douglas fir (Pseudotosuga taxifolia var viridis Asch.
et Gr.) of the foreign ones.

Two experimental plots (Durgutovica and Surduk) are on the former forest
area, one (Slani potok) on the former agricultural area and one (Lokve) on the
grassland covered with bracken. According to the first results the increments
on forest grounds are higher that those on agricultural — grassland areas.

The data refer to the period 1969—1973. Hight increments are shown in table
4, total heights and diameters brest high in 1973 in 1973 in table 5 and graphs

2. Species are indicated in abbreviations, i. e. »OB« meaning Pinus silvestris L.,
»CB« — P. nigra Arnold, »OS« — Picea abies Karsten, »EA« — Larix decidua
Mill., »AB« — Pinus strobus L. and »ZD« — Pseudotsuga taxifolia var. viridis
