SUMMARY

SILVICULTURAL MEASURES IN SOME NATURAL STANDS
AND PLANTATIONS OF EUROAMERICAN POPLARS OF THE
SLAVONIAN REGION

The paper deals with investigation results on the relation between silvicultural
works (thinning) and production in some stands of natural forests as well
as the follow-up of development and wood production of some Euroamerican
poplars.

Among natural forests the stands of following communities have been studied:

Montane beech forest (Fagetum croaticum pannonicum Horv.)

Pedunculate oak forest with genista (Genlsto elatae — Quercetum roboris
Horv.)
— Sessile oak and hornbeam (Querco-Carpinetum croaticum Horv.)
Cultivating results of the following Euroamerican poplars are given:
— cv. Marilandica (in districts (Daljski Porić, Veliki Bajar and Sikirna)
— cv. Robusta (in districts Španjolska ada and Sikirina)
— cv. clone 1 — 214 (in districts Španjolska ada and Sikirina)
For natural stands the author recomands an intensive tending (thinning)
under the condition that the total growing socks of the stand is not decreased,
as well as the use of »temporary species« like birch and aspen, which naturally
propagate on hilly and mountainous felling sites.

Among poplars the highest production — regardless of localities — has been
obtained with the cv. Marilandica, less with tie clone 1—214 and the least with
the cv. robusta.
