1945, when it was replaced by new organizational form of work. All the main
people in charge of the Inspectorate have also been mentioned, they are the
foresters: E. Malbohan, A- Rosaminth, 0. Nytray, J. Baien, A. Kauders and Vv
Pleše.


V. SKORUP reported on the Forest Enterprise at Senj, which manages both
the Littoral part of degraded Karst and 40,000 hectars of high forests in the
continental part. Those are selection forests of beech, beech-fir and fir-spruce.
The enterprise has founded in 1960. Since then the lain loging quantity has been
realized from cuttings which primarily aim to improve the quality of stands,
uneconomicaly managed so far by cutting mainly stems of higher quality. In
the 18-years period of its existence the enterprise increased the totah length of
forest roads from 9,2 km/1,000 hectars to 14 km/1,000 hectars and that financed
by own resources. The area of the enterprise covers also several protected natural
objects. There are among them geomorphological reservation of rocks the
»Hajdučki i Rožanski kukovi« in northern Velebit, reservation of forest vegetation
(Quercus ilex L.) Dundo on the island of Rab and a port of the mountain
Velebit, which was included in the internacional net of biosphere reservation by
the United Nations Organization in 1977. There are also the Velebit Botanical
Gardens there, founded in 1969. by Prof. Dr. Fran Kušan with the purpose to
collect and to grow about 900 specific plant species of the mountain Velebit.
S BERTOVIĆ describes the foundation, the natural peculiarities and the
function of the VELEBIT BOTANICAL GARDENS AND RESERVATION. He has
also mentioned some other protected natural objects in Velebit and their role
inside of the recently declared biosphore reservation.


S. BERTOVIĆ has reported on the work of the Meteorological Station »Zavižan
«, emphasizing its manifold importance for accomplished and anticipated
investigations in Velebit.
S. VANJKOVIĆ refered to the results of some former Consultings on Karst
at Split in 1958 and at Zadar in 1976. Particular care has also been paid to the
renewal of forests on the degraded part of Karst in the post-war Yugoslavia. That
is why Federal Institute of Afforestation and Amelioration of Karst, Federal
Secondary Forestry School for Karst, and Republican Authority for afforestation
and Amelioration of Karst at Rijeka and Split were founded. D. JEDLOWSKI and
O. PIŠKORIĆ reported about these institutions. O. Piškorić presented also the
activity of the common assembly of the Austrian State Forestry Association,
Croatian-Slavonian Forestry Association and Carniolic-Littoral Forestry Association,
held at Rijeka and Senj in 1879, where problems of renewal of forests on
Karst were extensively discussed, (op)
