SOME OBSERVATIONS ON THE OCCURRENCE OF CERATOSTOMELLA
MEROLINENSIS IN THE AREA OF THE MANAGEMENT UNIT
»VRBANJSKE ŠUME«


The author analyses the occurrence of the fungus Ceratostomella merolinensis
and its harmfulness to stands of Pedunculate Oak in the management unit »Vrbanjske
šume«, and suggests some measures for its controlling, such as:


1. Cleaning and thinnings of the vounger stands according to the principles of
Dr. I. Dekanić (1967);
2. Thinnings, even if belated, in middle-aged stands according to the principle
»more frequently and more moderately«;
3. Ensuring to Oak a favourable water balance in the case of the establishment
of channels, with the understanding that to this purpose »a collaboration of all
the interested and competent experts (agriculturists, foresters, hydrologists) is
necessary, who ought jointly to determine the »elevation« at which the water level
should be maintained«. The author also deals with the possible harmfulness of
some constituents in the polluted water of the Sava, and »especially after the
construction of the nuclear power station at »Krško«, but he considers that the
water when percolating from the channels into the neighbouring grounds will be
sufficiently purified.
