Summary


NATURAL REGENERATION AS A FACTOR OF STAND STRUCTURE IN
FORESTS OF SILVER FIR WITH HARDFERN (BLECHNO-ABIETETUM HORV.)


An investigation on the influence of stand structure on the natural regeneration
in selection forests of Silver Fir with Hardfern (Blechno-Abietetum Horv.) was
carried out in the Gorski Kotar region (Croatia) in the Faculty forest of Zalesina
on 50 experimental plots totalling 2 hectares.


Experimental plots were laid out in the forest association of Silver Fir with
Hardfern (Blechno-Abietetum Horv.) and in two subassociations, viz Blechno-Abietetum
hylocomietosum Horv. and Blechno-Abietetum typicum Horv. facies Vaccinium
myrtillus The mentioned association is found in the climazonal region of Beech and
Fir of the Dinaric Mountain Massif.


Soils on which the mentioned stands have developed represent acid-brown and
brown podsolic soils, and podsols; they developed on Palaeozoic sand sediments.
The area investigated lies at 800 m. above sea-level.


On the basis of two measurements performed within a 5-year period on all
experimental plots, there were obtained numerical data concerning elements of
stand structure, elements and indices of natural regeneration.
