mu oblični broj s porastom visine raste.

Summary

ANOTHER CONTRIBUTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE
OF THE HORNBEAM FORM FACTOR

When processing data for the preparation of volume tables for Hornbeam, there
was also carried out an examination of the Hornbeam form factor, for already a
few preliminary investigations had shown a certain anomaly with respect to the
characteristics of the form factors of other forest tree species. Smoothing of the volumes,
when preparing the tables, was carried out numerically by using the Schumacher-
Hall formula V = 10a . db . hc. In transforming this formula by inserting

V = g . h . f for volume, and g for basal area, the following expression was

obtained for the form factor:

f = — . 10» . đb-2 . hc-1

n

From this formula it is visible that if the parameter »c« is greater than 1, then
with an increasse of height h (d being constant) also the form factor f increases. In
contrast, if c -< 1, the form factor decreases with the height increasing. The same
occurs when changing the breast height diameter d (under a constant height), if the
parameter b is either greater or smaller than 2.

For Hornbeam in the SR of Croatia were calculated — on the basis of 1936 model
trees — the parameters b = 2,027826, and c = 1,227771. Considering that the
