Summary

RESULTS OF EARLY GROWTH AND INCREMENT OF FIVE CONIFEROUS
SPECIES IN THE FOREST DISCTRICT OF »TOČAK«

In the region of the Forest Enterprise Karlovac are to be found about 4,100
hectares of heather and bracken areas on which were established a major number
of experimental plantings with various coniferous species.

In the article is described a planting of intensive culture of conifers »Točak«,
compartment 18, in the area of the Forest Office of Slunj. In 1960 was performed
a planting of Scots Pine, Norway Spruce and European Larch, in 1961 of Austrian
Pine and Eastern White Pine. During the planting a starting fertilization was applied
in Scots Pine, Norway Spruce and Austrian Pine (partly), no fertilization being
applied in Larch and Eastern White Pine. In the years following artificial fertilizers
were added to all plants (dose of 0.20 kg. NPK (ratio: 10:16:20) per plant), and
that produced quite a success.

Through a follow-up of experiments satisfactory results were obtained, and special
success was achieved in Scots Pine, Eastern White Pine, European Larch in the
diameter and height increments. Through further investigations, but in lower rotations
of 20—25 years, final results for applying the planting of those coniferous
species will be obtained, which ought to be most productive in this area within the
anticipated shorter growing cycle.
