Summary

THE INFLUENCE OF WOOD STRUCTURE ON PERMEABILITY OF HARDWOODS

On the basic of world literature the author gives a review on influence of wood
structure on permeability of hardwoods.

The longitudinal permeability of hardwoods depends mainly of frequency and
diameter of vessels. Lateral permeability depends on tissue surroundig the vessels,
as well as on their conjugate pits.

The permeability is greatly reduced during heartwood formation, owing to tyloses
formation and deposition of gum into the vessels.
