Summary

THE INFLUENCE OF WOOD STRUCTURE ON PERMEABILITY OF SOFTWOODS

On the basis of world literature the author gives a review on influence of wood
structure and its variations on permeability of softwoods.

The permeability of softwoods depends on variability of length and diameter
of axial tracheids, participation and structure of ray tissue, number ad type of pits,
as well as on aspiration of bordered pits affected by heartwood formation and drying
of sapwood.

On the end of this article reviewed are investigation trials for increasing the
permeability of softwoods.
