SOIL CHARACTERISTIC OF SOME SESSILE OAK FOREST TYPES
IN THE MOUNTAIN OF KARADŽICA (KITKA)

Summary

Investigated was the soil of experimental plots in three types of Sessile Oak
forests in the Mountain of Karadžica, and differences were found amang them. In
the forest type of Orno-Quercetum petraeae carpinetosum betuli Em on a smaller
inclination of slope an acid unsaturated brown forest soil was formed on an ortho-
gneiss parent material. In contrast to this, the same brown soil was formed under
the forest type of Orno-Quercetum petraeae luzuletosum forsten Em and Orno-
Quercetum petraeae luzuletosum forsteri fac. carpinosum orientalis Em on ortho-
gneiss and mica-schists, only that it was considerably shallower and undeveloped.
This is attributable to a more intensive erosion on a greater inclination of the slope.
In addition to other differences with respect to the properties of the soils interesting
are differences in their warming. During the growing season coldest was the acid
unsaturated brown forest soil under the forest type of Orno-Quercetum petraeae
carpinetosum betuli Em, and warmest -was the same soil — but medium deep — under
the forest type of Orno-Quercetum petraeae luzuletosum forsteri fac. carpinosum
orientalis Em. In the first-named soil also the daily fluctuations of temperatures
were the lowest.
