TWENTY YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT OF A BALD CYPRESS (Taxodium
distichum Rich.) STAND IN THE FOREST OF MOTOVUN


Summary


In a Bald Cypress stand sited in the Motovun Forest, Istria, were carried out
during a 10-year period, i. e. between 25 and 35 years of age, inventories by means
of the Control Method. The current annual volume increment for the mentioned
10-year period was 24.8 cu. m./ha., while the mean annual volume increment for the
age of 35 years was 9.57 cu. m./ha. When comparing Bald Cypress with indigenous
conifers such as Fir, Spruce and Pine, it follows that Bald Cypress is a species of
rapid growth, which, grown in intensive cultures, would give still higher yields.
