especially in Istria and the environs of Trieste. On the basis of existing and verified data we obtain now a clearer picture as to the north-western limit to which this species at the present time is spreading in this country. This limit is illustrated by the author with several geographic maps in which it is also made a comparison with the range of distribution of some other significant species, such as for instance Carpinus orientalis Mill and Quercus macedonica A. DC. The author then discusses the wide variability of forms of leaves of Quercus confereta Kit. found in the areas of Hercegovina and the supposed hybrids discovered in these parts so far. Finally, the emphasizes the excellent qualities of v/ood as well as other valuable silvicultural properties of Quercus conferta Kit., and also announces his further investigatios of Oaks in the area where the central European and sub-Mediterranean species meet. |
